Membership in the Detroit Model Railroad Club is open to anyone interested in model railroading. No experience is required. You can get all the experience you will need by helping to build and operate one of the largest model railroads in the country. If you have never worked on a model railroad, we can teach you everything you need to know about tracklaying, scenery, electrical work, building, rolling stock and train operations. If you have some experience in these areas, you may be able to show us a few things.
There are several types of members, depending on how involved you want to be. Each type of membership is described below.
Active members are the lifeblood of the club. They "own" the club and participate in the business decisions about the club. Active members can hold office, serve on committees and vote at club meetings. Active members also participate in the planning and construction of the model railroad. Prospective active members serve a six (6) month probationary period before approval by the membership. Our By-Laws allow a maximum of 50 active members. Dues are $240.00 per year with a $50.00 initiation fee.
Associate members can enjoy the benefits of membership without being involved in the details of operating the club. Associate members have free admission to all open houses and can participate in club activities. Associate members receive the club's newsletter, "The Puffer Chuffer". Dues for associate members are $100.00 per year.
JUNIOR ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
Junior associate members are sponsored by an active or associate member and are under 18 years of age. Junior associate members can attend club functions under the direct supervision of their sponsor and receive the newsletter. Dues are $10.00 per year.
FRIENDS OF THE CLUB
Friends of the club help support the club even though they cannot be actively involved. Friends enjoy free admission to all open houses, and receive the club's newsletter. Dues are $30.00 per year.
